Responding to the rising need for pharmacists nationally, and particularly in the South, Georgia Campus – Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (GA-PCOM) offers a four–year Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) professional degree program, which is supported by PCOM’s 110-year tradition of training osteopathic physicians and other health practitioners.
The role of the pharmacist continues to evolve with opportunities in community/retail pharmacies; health clinics; compounding pharmacies; mail order or pharmaceutical sales; healthcare systems; government agencies; and pharmaceutical research and development. The School of Pharmacy prepares entry-level generalist pharmacists for careers with the right combination of skills, knowledge, attitudes and values to develop and grow in this rapidly evolving profession.
Some highlights of the PharmD program include:
- The curriculum emphasizes patient-centered care and preventive practices, entrusting graduates to create thoughtful, proactive and caring practice environments.
- Faculty comprised of expert and accomplished educators, pharmacy practitioners and pharmaceutical scientists who engage students in the classroom, on rotation and in collaborative research projects.
- State-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories, including clinical learning laboratories and pharmaceutical compounding labs, with multimedia equipment, break out rooms for team-building exercises, a cadaver anatomy lab and more.
- Support for students exercised through strong student affairs resources, faculty advisors and peer mentors.
- Extensive experiential education for hands-on learning and training via Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs) within and outside of the state of Georgia.
- Community engagement ranging from pharmacy practice experiential training to involvement with local schools and organizations on health education and medical safety.
